On Saturday March 4, Jamesville-DeWitt High School track athletes senior Hannah Butler, and junior David Fikhman traveled to Staten Island for the 2017 New York State Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Butler competed in the 3000-meter run while Fikhman ran in the 300-meter sprint. Both had an impressive showing, with Butler finishing in 19th place with a time of 10:28.77, “I didn’t do as well as I had hoped, but my experience on indoor track is something I would never give back,” she said. Fikhman finished 14th place in the preliminary round with a time of 35.98 seconds, missing the state finals by .57 seconds. “I did well, but I think I could’ve done better, I had no one pushing me in my heat.” said Fikhman who enjoyed his first time competing at states, “It was fun, everyone was nice there.”
