The Jamesville-Dewitt Varsity Girls Basketball team has had a tremendous amount of success in the last few seasons including winning their first Class A State Championship in school history. A large contributor to the team’s success was sophomore basketball star and recently named Class A state basketball Co-Player of the Year Meg Hair. Hair was named co-player of the year alongside senior Corinn Baggs of Staten Island Academy in early May.

On paper Hair’s stats may not stand out, but on the court she contributes to much more than just points. “If she's not scoring, she's contributing rebounds, assists, steals, tips,” says Head Coach Rob Siechen, noting that Hair also runs the court to dictate tempo.

Despite Hair’s raw talent as a player, she insists that her teammates are also a huge influence on her performance. “My team pushed me to be my best, (and) always had confidence in me,” says Hair. Senior Julia Fairbanks has had a positive experience with Hair on the court. “She always had something funny to do and say on the court,” says Fairbanks.

“My team is always so supportive of me,” said Hair about her team. All of her teammates were thrilled when hearing of Hair’s big achievement. “I think it's awesome for her, it is going to open a lot of doors for her and she deserves it 100 percent,” says senior teammate Carly O’Hern. Although Hair is only a sophomore, fellow sophomore teammate Kasey Vaughan was “not surprised” about Hair winning co-player of the year. “I’ve played with her since I was little and she’s always been great, but she improved a lot this year and definitely deserves this.”
