New Moon: New Reason to Live

"You are my life now." Sound familiar?
They're the words Edward Cullen says to Bella Swan that had every teenage girl at the movie theater wishing she was Bella. Last November, millions of people hurried to buy their tickets for "Twilight," some staying up all night for the midnight showing.
This year, on Nov. 20, the second movie in the "Twilight" series, "New Moon" came out. Jamesville-DeWitt High School students are still as excited as ever to go and watch the new masterpiece. Some are even more excited about seeing "New Moon" than they were for "Twilight. " Why?
For Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner.
Michele Burgwin, a sophomore at J-DHS, is one of them. "The part I can't wait to see is when Jacob turns into a werewolf."
But for some, Lautner is reason enough to see the movie.
J-DHS junior Tessa Grover and freshman Sierra Vasiliou, also from J-D are also excited to see Jacob. "The part I can't wait to see is the scene in the rain when Jacob is shirtless." Grover says. Vasiliou agreed.
Though many want to see Jacob with his shirt off, they are equally excited about the rest of the movie. The recurring themes of depression and loneliness in "New Moon," in comparison to Twilight's themes revolving around passion and love, don't seem to deter students at J-DHS.
Natalie Nardone, a junior at J-DHS said, "I think it's really cool how the characters reveal their secret identities."
It's obvious many people enjoy the movies, but "enjoy" doesn't automatically merit "obsessed."
"I'm a fan and I like it but that doesn't mean I'm obsessed. It's just another movie," Bakal said.
"I like the movies but I'm not a Twilighter," Grover agreed.
I went to see "New Moon" at 7:30 p.m. the Friday it was released, so theater was packed. I went with a group of people (mostly girls, only two boys) and we had to get there over an hour early to wait in line and get good seats.
So why did "New Moon" get so much attention?
Because "Twilight" attracted flocks of people. Many teenage boys see "Twilight" a girly and sappy movie. But there are so many other elements of the movie than just romance. If girls can love the movie for the romance, guys can easily love it just as much for the action, fantasy, and"”according to J-DHS junior Ira Griffin"”pick-up lines that will make you say "aw."
Griffin was actually the only high school boy brave enough to talk about the movie, unlike others who admitted they enjoyed the movie but refused to be quoted.
"I actually liked the movie. My favorite part was when the werewolf dudes were fighting," Griffin said.
The more avid fans enjoyed the movie the movie overall. J-DHS sophomore Kristina Sinitsin saw the movie twice over the weekend. "It was really good but I didn't like the ending because it leaves you hanging" she says. "My favorite part was seeing Jacob shirtless and also when he cut his hair."
"New Moon" was expected to be as great a phenomenon as "Twilight." After seeing it myself, I would say that it definitely lived up to its fans' expectations. Even if you aren't for the hopeless romance stories I suggest that you go and see it. You might be surprised.
