Jamesville-DeWitt High School added two more to the long list of those transcending high school to join the collegiate sports world as Division I athletes.
On Friday, Feb. 3, seniors Tessa Devereaux and Lauren Crosby signed their national letters of intent in front of a crowd of their families, students, and local news cameras during a press conference held at the high school.
Devereaux, captain of this year’s Varsity Girls Soccer team and winner of the Scholar All-American award (with a 4.0 grade point average), along with many other honors, including the selection to be on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Region II Team, received a DI scholarship to Stony Brook University. SBU is part of the America East Conference, where she will become a member of the Seawolves’ pack next year.
Devereaux plans on playing for Head Coach of the Stony Brook Women’s Soccer team, Sue Ryan, as well as majoring in biology.
Last year, the Seawolves’ ended their season at 4-12-1 (2-6 in conference play).
Crosby will be attending Lafayette College in order to pursue her dreams to become a successful D-I swimmer. But, Crosby, unlike Devereaux, did not receive a DI athletic scholarship. Lafayette College, a member of the Patriot League, and therefore is not allowed to give out DI scholarships, along with all other schools in this league, except for Colgate University.
