Girls' Teams Hope to Repeat Successful Seasons

As the temperature falls, The Varsity Girls' Basketball and Volleyball Teams are warming up for successful seasons.
After their loss to Mexico in the sectional semi-final, the Girl's Basketball Team expects another successful season. Last year, the team had a good performance with only a few losses. "However, we lost some games that we shouldn't have," says point guard Alyssa Gratien, a senior.
The four starters that are returning will help contribute to the success of the team. "I think we're going to be good because we only lost one senior," says junior Monica Piccolo. However, that lost player was key. "Molly Maroney was a crucial defender and a leader," says Gratien. Maroney was a guard and a wing on the team last season. "Without her, it will be hard to defend the most dominant players," says Gratien. "We're loosing a hard worker and a good defender," says junior Emily Nuss.
Piccolo says that their goals are to be smarter on the court and play as a team. "Goals for this year are to win and get better; play as a team and not individuals," agrees Gratien. "I think we could win sectionals this year," says Gratien.
On the other side of the gym, the Girl's Volleyball Team is warming up for a good season as well. After their loss to Fulton in the second round of sectionals, "the team will be stronger, faster, and quicker this season," says Jim Tuck, coach. "The positive attitude and excitement about the upcoming season is now contagious," says Coach Tuck.
The team lost four seniors. However, several key players are returning this season, like Frannie Haunfelner, Ally Loewy, Jess Butler, and Emily Parker. "Other modified and junior varsity players will contribute well when they get to the varsity level," says Coach Tuck.
Coach Tuck thinks that if the team stays healthy, and pushes each other rather than settling for okay play, they will go farther than last year. "I know some goals will be to push ourselves each day to be better than the day before," says Coach Tuck.
