School Year Expectations

Though it is barely the end first mid-marking period, some Jamesville- DeWitt High School students are looking forward to the end. Juniors Jim Quartier and John Gallaurusi, as well as sophomores Jonathon Perry and Scott Kasouf all share the desire for the next summer break. They simply expect to pass each of their classes this year and reach June.
Not all students have their eyes on the end. Many students look forward to what they consider to be major events this year. Juniors Taylor Johnson and Vicky VanbenSchoten are most excited for prom. Fellow junior Tommy Zheng looked forward to homecoming the most. But he is also excited for holiday breaks, vacations, summer and even snow delays or closings. Zheng also expects the year to academically be tough. Junior Julen Bascaran hopes to grow his hair out to his chest and learn to braid this year. What he looks forward to the most, however, is simply food.
Many think sports are the key to having a fun year. Junior Danielle Doss anticipates diving sectionals, where she hopes her team will do well so they can go to states. Sophomore Katie West is currently looking forward to track. Both Doss and West expect to do well on their report cards, with West shooting for Bs. Juniors May Miller and Amanda Behan look forward to being one year closer to college and expect to do well in school while having a good time doing it.
But how are seniors viewing their final year at school? Senior Sibela Osmanovic mainly anticipates "chillin', to be honest." She expects to graduate and so officially end her high school career. Marie Jorgensen expects to succumb to "senioritis," and looks forward to getting this year over with. Ira Griffin is looking forward to finding out which colleges will accept him. Griffin's expectations are to be the best that he can be. And senior Tom Wilson looks forward to graduating. He expects it to be somewhat challenging throughout the application process and for the APs to be somewhat difficult.
Although some students can't wait to be out of school, the teachers of J-DHS seem to be most excited to help the students. New physics teacher Patrick Ferrick who recently moved here from Old Forge, N.Y., most looks forward to meeting and getting to know as many people as possible, since he says there are "more people in the stairwell than at his old school Old Forge Mr. Ferrick expects great things from the students after having heard so much of the school. The school nurse Holly Adolfi is looking forward to the new help she will receive from her part- time aid Kimberly Klil, as well as a year of limited illness. She expects to continue meeting and interacting with students, faculty and staff, as long as they're not sick. Library aid Bill Cotterill looks forward to working with students and staff in order to help them with educational needs. "I'm successful in working at the library and I want to remain healthy so I can be here to fulfill my duties," Mr. Cotterill says. He also expects the Yankees to win the World Series this year.
