Break out the sunglasses, grab some Arnold Palmer and unfold the law chairs because summer is quickly approaching.

Students at Jamesville-DeWitt High School are beginning to plan their summer vacations in anticipation of the 90 days of school-less warm weather ahead.

"I can't wait for summer. I'm getting sick a little sick of school," says J-DHS junior Kara Capstraw. Capstraw says she has no real plans but is "looking forward to enjoying days where I don't have to wake up early and go to school."

Like Capstraw, most students haven't made a lot of plans for the upcoming summer. "I haven't made any real plans yet. I just feel like taking it one day at a time and doing whatever I feel like doing on that day. I don't want to worry about making plans," says J-DHS
junior Connor Headd.

Yet, some others don't have much of a choice, like the Rippon twins who will be moving back to Mississippi at the end of June. "Our summer is going to be filled with the joys of packing up our belongings and moving yet again," says J-DHS junior Jilly Rippon.

The beginning of summer also brings the beginning of summer camps and athletic camps. J-DHS junior basketball player Josh Stone is excited for the start of various basketball camps he will be attending over the summer.

Others, like J-DHS freshman Sophia Maloff, are looking to reunite with their friends at summer camps like the one Maloff is going to at Seneca Lake. "It's going to be really fun to see all the friends that I haven't seen all year long."

Those looking forward to traveling outside the state include J-DHS juniors Dan Distefano and Tommy Schulte. "I have to go showcase my flow at a tournament in Baltimore. It's a really nice city and should be a good time," says Distefano.

Tommy Schulte is straying away from sports on his vacation, however, and is traveling to Boston to visit family.

For the most part, many students who attend J-DHS aren't planning any elaborate vacations this summer. As summed up by freshman Nate Wagner "I think people are just looking to relax and chill out this summer, which sounds like a good idea to me."
