Finally, the Syracuse weather will turn to blue skies and hot, sunny days. Although Syracuse is known for its cooler weather, summers can reach stifling temperatures. Jamesville-DeWitt High School students are finding ways to stay cool this summer.
Some out-of-the-ordinary things students do to stay cool:
"I'm going to go cycling because the breeze is nice. Also, I have a whole bucket list of things I want to do this summer, like sky diving and going in a hot air balloon," says junior Hannah Fagut.
Junior Reed Tso is going to Antarctica to "be cool with the polar bears."
Freshman Gabby Eure is going to get a job at an ice cream place.
"I'm going to soak it up on the beach with my soul mate," says freshman Max Mastine.
Some will take a dive into refreshment:
"I'll go somewhere air conditioned and swim in a lake at my camp," says freshman Brad Davis.
"I'm going to go swimming at the JCC pool," says junior Becca Bergman.
"I'll be going swimming in Mike Engstrom's pool," says freshman Jordan Evans.
"I might go to a pool or a lake but the heat doesn't really bother me, I like it," says girls' volleyball coach James Tuck.
"I'm going over the Zach Stefl's house to go swimming," says senior Mike Scibilia.
Some found fun away from home:
"Going to a camp on the lake, I'm going to get my swim on," says freshman Sophia Maloff.
Junior Lauren Francey is going to "Water Safari, where the fun never stops."
When Darien Lake Water Park was suggested as a spot for fun, Nina Williams responds jokingly, "I can't afford to go to no Darien Lake Water Park, we're in a recession."
Others are going to find their own fun ways to stay cool this summer in their own back yards.:
Freshman Darius Sius says he "will be walking around his house naked."
Freshman Jackie Halpin will "eat lemon ice in her air conditioned house."
"I'll be swimming in my inflatable pool with my 3-year-old son," says Media Productions teacher Lee Krukowski.
"I'm going to sleep with a fan," says Scibilia
"I love laying on my trampoline in my bathing suit with friends," says sophomore Shani Spencer.
"I'm going to be laying in front of a fan," says junior Derek Horn.
"I will be having a water balloon fight," says freshman Jon Williams.
Some people might hate Syracuse for the few months of unbearable snow and bitter cold weather, but at least we have the summer to make up for it. Now get out, lather the 45 on and soak up the sun.
