(In the spirit of April Fools, readers should be aware several quotes are simply jokes.) (Especially Mr, Gasparini's.)
Of all the mischief that occurred on April Fool's Day, 2010 one gag had students and teachers alike buzzing. Jamesville-DeWitt's Hall of Fame had been compromised with the addition of a cleverly designed replica of a fake inductee plaque and was posted among J-DHS greats Danny Schayes and John Roy.
The fake plaque honored a brave man.
Walker Ian Masiclat the First.
"The idea came to me on March 29, five days before April Fool's day. I was talking to a buddy of mine about high school pranks and how nothing interesting happens at our school. I realized there needed to be a change," Masiclat explains.
"I had my friend (sophomore) Brad Kogut make the wood, but I didn't tell him what it was intended for. I designed the layout a couple days before with Photoshop, and I finished on Tuesday. I placed it on the wall Wednesday morning before first period."
When asked if he was concerned about the reaction from the school administration, Masiclat was very relaxed.
"I never really thought about getting into trouble. Maybe at the most I thought I would get a detention," says Masiclat.
While Masiclat thought this idea was all in good fun, Principal Paul Gasparini took the matter very seriously.
"Mr. Brown called me down to show me a problem in the Hall of Fame. We were both very shaken and disturbed by what we were seeing. Mr. Brown was close to tears and I was cautious to touch the plaque," Gasparini explains. "I personally feel that Walker Masiclat is being harassed. And that these incidents in the Hall of Fame are occurring frequently across the country."
When asked about how realistic the plaque was, Gasparini offered praise. "It was a criminal masterpiece, and I couldn't help but being impressed."
However, both Brown and Gasparini are very determined to catch the individual who they infer is "harassing" Masiclat.
"We have a special investigation group on it now. I can promise you, the perpetrator will pay for his actions," vows the principal defiantly.
We want you to catch him too Mr. Gasparini, and lets pray that Walker Ian Masiclat the First will stay safe under the protection of the Jamesville-DeWitt community.
