Girls Volleyball-
The Jamesville-Dewitt High School Varsity Girls Volleyball team had one of their more disappointing seasons in a while, posting only two wins and 12 losses this season.
Junior Ally Loewy said, "we weren't even that bad, we just forgot how to win." Loewy had an impressive 115 kills this season and was one of the top contributors, along with senior Alyssa Miller, and juniors Jess Butler and Emily Parker.
The team will lose five seniors after this year but will also have eight returning juniors, setting them up for a great season next year.
Varsity Boys Hockey-
Christian Brothers Academy/J-DHS Boys Hockey came to an end with a solid record of 9-8. The team made it to quarterfinals but lost to New Hartford, who went on to the section championship. "We're set up for the season next winter. We're only losing three seniors. The team should be really good," says junior Dan Distefano, the team's starting goalie.
CBA/J-DHS was thinking about moving up to Division 1 from Division 2 for next season but Section III decided against it. Captain Nick Firman, Distefano and Harry Kalet, all juniors, helped lead the team to a fourth place finish in Division 2 West. Firman finished the season with two goals and five assists, Kalet finished with 10 goals and 10 assists, while Distefano finished with a 90 percent save percentage.
"I think we did a lot better when we came together as a team. I'm excited for next season," says sophomore Brendan Flanagan.
Boys Varsity Basketball-
The J-DHS Varsity Boys Basketball dominated their season with a record of 19-0 after their dramatic victory at home against CBA on Feb. 12 when sophomore Tyler Cavanaugh made the game winning shot with less than five seconds left in the game.
"The atmosphere was amazing. It always is even if it is an away game," said senior Kenny Schunk. Schunk also added that the team chemistry is definitely getting better, and it is the right time for it.
The team's season, however, is not yet over. After winning the Section III Class A championship against Nottingham High School, the team will face a still to be determined team from Section II in Glens Falls on Saturday, March 13.
Girls Basketball-
The J-DHS Varsity Girl's basketball team finished the regular season with a 15-4 record. In sectionals, the team beat East Syracuse-Minoa with a score of 57-53. The team lost to Cortland 52-35 in the semifinals. Cortland then went on to win Section III.
Top players this year included juniors Ameena Dye and seniors Nicole Ortega Liz Beville and Alyssa Gratien. The team has five seniors leaving but has four juniors and three sophomores returning to make up for those losses next year.
Boys Wrestling-
In the team's first season in over 20 years the combined Jamesville-DeWitt High School/ Christian Brothers Academy boys wrestling team showed some times of hope posting a 2-5 record. The squad decided to stay independent, or out of a league, for their first year so they were not eligible to qualify for sectionals. The boys started out their season with a thriller, taking down Chittenango High School by two points. J-D senior, Harley Swift and sophomore Dan Miele led the team to a good start for the future of the program.
Boys Swimming-
The Jamesville-DeWitt High School boy's swimming team placed fourth in the Section III Championship falling behind league rival Mexico High School. Not only did J-DHS junior, Eric Jorgensen lead the team to a 6-3 record, he also qualified for states. The team looks to return six juniors to build on this year's success.
Boys Indoor Track-
The Jamesville-DeWitt Boys Indoor Track team continue their reign of dominance, winning the Freedom League Championship meet and the Class A Sectional Championship meet. Many of the athletes advanced to the NYDPHAA Championship meet where senior Bumkoth Jiak took fourth place in the 600-meter run. Seniors Bumkoth Jiak and David Salbert competed in the Nike National Scholastic Indoor Meet in Boston
Girls Indoor Track-
Matching the success of the boys' team is not easy, but the Lady Rams did it. They also won their Freedom League Championship meet, as well as the Class A Sectional Championship meet. Senior Marae Tearney advanced to the State Championship meet at Cornell University for shot put. Many other girls attended this meet like junior Avery Share in the 1500-meter Race Walk. The girl's look to match their success next year, which will not be easy to do.
