The long-awaited holiday break is approaching Jamesville-Dewitt High School and students couldn't be any more relieved. Some people are lucky to be going to exotic and extravagant places, while others are staying in Syracuse to watch the snow fall.
Junior Michelle Bakal is going on a cruise and to Florida. "I'm going with my mom on the cruise, and with my mom, grandmother, one of my brothers and his girlfriend to Florida," Bakal says. But she isn't the only one doing some long-distance traveling.
Erin Lee, also a junior, will be stopping at Virginia on her way to Disney World. "In Virginia I'll be spending time with my family and at Disney World we'll be staying at a Hilton hotel because they called my mom and we got a good deal."
Sophomore Amara Khan is going to Chicago. "My brother lives there. I'll be celebrating Christmas with him, my mom, my dad and possibly one of my sisters."
Junior Yudis Cobas is going back to her roots in Cuba. "I'm going to be spending Christmas with my cousins and grandparents," she says.
Sophomore Jon Hanig is planning to go to Jamaica with his family. "I hope we go," Hanig says. Who wouldn't? It's going to be in the high 80s and low 90s.
Stephanie DiBiase, junior, will be enduring a three-to-four hour car ride to Warwick, New York, where she will open presents and spend time with her family.
The poor, unfortunate souls who will be staying here in gloomy Syracuse include Tessa Stathis, a junior. She says she will be staying at home, hanging out with family, and going to a Christmas party.
Junior Mark Valentin at J-DHS is also staying home. He'll be "chilling, opening presents," and, of course, "hanging out and going out to eat with my family."
If you plan on staying in Syracuse, some things you could do are visit your local Barnes and Noble and curl up with a good book by their fireplace. Or take a trip to the Everson Museum and look at the Turner to Cezanne exhibit which displays many pieces of art from France, or, if you aren't into that, there are always good movies coming out on holiday weekends (such as "Sherlock Holmes" which is released Christmas Day or "The Princess and the Frog," which came out Dec. 11).
